Greenfield’s Beach Snorkelling

A beautiful Saturday morning enticed us to stroll down to Greenfield’s Beach – the southernmost of Vincentia’s white beaches. A high tide and strengthening Nor-Easter meant conditions were a little choppy. Visibility however was good at 4 to 5 metres and water temp comfortable at 20 deg Celsius or so. There is some great fish life in the Bay and today was no exception – sand whiting in close and at the edge of reef numerous trevally, bream, big red morwong and plenty of groper, mainly greenish juveniles but I did follow a large 1 metre blue groper for a minute or so – an impressive size and a beautiful hue of strong blue.

No rays today but last week we encountered many at the southern end of the beach, particularly stingarees, fiddler rays and 4 or 5 large black rays in the 1 to 2 m range.
